Two of my greatest interests are the outdoors and seeing the beauty of unfamiliar places. Through this personal project, I set out to create a collection of five travel posters carefully designed with the outdoor enthusiast in mind. My goal with each poster was to capture the feel of the destination as well as inspire the viewer to travel to the location. An additional challenge was to make each poster unique, while also maintaining a consistent look among the set of five posters.
In order to accurately portray the locations, I selected three places I have lived, one place I have visited, and one place I hope to travel to someday. Visually, I drew much of my inspiration from vintage travel posters and National Park advertisements. Additionally, there were three important aspects for each poster. These elements were the colors, imagery, and typography. I dedicated much of my time to fine tuning these elements. For instance, I carefully researched the colors of the area, the wildlife of the state, and the typographical trends of the locations.
Today, I have the set of posters hanging in my apartment, and they are a visual reminder each day of my love for the outdoors, travel, and design. Furthermore, this project helped me sharpen my skills in Photoshop and typography.
